Nevada County Airport was built in 1932 by Errol McBoyle, owner of the Idaho Maryland Mine, to fly gold to Mills Field (now San Francisco International Airport).
In 1956, Charles Litton (Litton Industries) gave the airport land to Nevada County as a gift.
In 1995, over $5 million was invested in improvements at the airport.
