Following the lead of many counties statewide, Nevada County embarked upon this new era of electronic services that streamlined processing and provided more expedient assistance to recipients of food stamps and
CalWORKs (temporary cash assistance for families).
Clients can access their benefits with a plastic card called the
Golden State Advantage Card. It is used just like a debit card and each client receives their own Personal Identification Number (PIN). Clients are able to access their cash benefits from ATM machines and POS terminals at participating stores, banks and gas stations. They can also purchase food through the food stamp program by presenting this same card.
Virtually all of the stores in Nevada County accept these electronic transactions. The card can be used throughout California and across the country - anywhere the "Quest" logo is displayed.

Cash assistance and food stamps are available to recipients on their "Benefit Availability Day" each month. More expedient and dependable than checks and coupons going through the mail, clients experience a new level of confidence in obtaining their benefits timely. Their allotment is "in the bank" for them and will remain there until withdrawn. Unused benefits will roll over to the next month.
For client convenience, EBT provides a 24 hour 1-800 Customer Service Helpline to assist with any questions they may have about the use of their card.
