Sue Horne has been a resident of Nevada County since 1980. She is a native Californian, born in San Bernardino. As the daughter of a career Air Force service member, Sue lived in numerous states during her childhood, as well as overseas in the Philippines and Japan. Her family settled in Rocklin, California, during her last two years of high school where she met her husband, Bruce. They married in 1974, and their three children were raised in Nevada County attending our local schools.
Sue has extensive private and public sector experience. She and her husband have owned and operated a construction firm in Nevada County since 1980. Sue also owned and operated an accounting service in the mid-80's for numerous local small businesses.
Beginning in 1993, she served as Nevada County's field representative for the late Assemblyman Bernie Richter. From 2001 - 2008, Sue served two terms as Nevada County's District 2 Supervisor, representing areas south of Grass Valley, Alta Sierra and Lake of the Pines. She served on numerous county-wide boards and commissions and served as Vice Chair and Chair of the Board of Supervisors. Sue also served as 2007 Chair of the Regional Council of Rural Counties, a 31-county advocacy organization comprised of rural county supervisors from across the state.
On June 8, 2010, Sue was elected Assessor by the voters of Nevada County and took office on January 3, 2011. Sue is dedicated to ensuring that taxpayers receive a fair, accurate and timely assessment of their taxable property.
