Tina M. Vernon
Nevada County Treasurer & Tax Collector
My name is Tina Vernon and I am your Elected Treasurer & Tax Collector. I have spent the majority of my life in Nevada County, with my family moving here in 1980. I grew up in So. County and graduated from Bear River High School. I attended the University of California, Davis through my junior year and then transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno where I earned my Bachelors of Science. I relocated back to Nevada County in 1997, to raise my children in the same beautiful place that I grew up in. I worked in the private sector for a number of years, managing health care practices with my wonderful husband before coming to work for the County of Nevada in 2001. In late 2001, I decided to go back to school for a Masters Degree in Business Administration and enrolled in the University of Phoenix Masters Program, a program specifically designed for full-time working adults. I received my Masters in 2004, just one year after joining the Nevada County Executive Office as an Analyst, working primarily on the County’s finances.
With eight years of experience working with County finances and as a County Taxpayer and homeowner, I ran for this office and was first elected in 2010 by the citizens of this county to serve as the County Treasurer & Tax Collector. I am focusing my energy on educating the taxpayers of this county on their rights as taxpayers and how the property tax system works and affects their lives as homeowners. As Treasurer, I am taking an active investment role, and with attention and analysis, it is my goal to provide safety and liquidity to the pool all while earning a reasonable yield. In these downturned economies, it is prudent to invest wisely yet not forget the opportunity costs that we might lose without attention.
In addition to holding this office, I am a member and office holder in a variety of professional organizations including the California Association of County Treasurer & Tax Collectors, California Municipal Treasurers Association, the Business and Professional Women of Nevada County (Former Finance Committee Chair), Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County (Board Chair and past-Treasurer), the Government Finance Officers Association and the Government Investment Officers Association.
I pride myself in partnering with the community, treating everyone fairly and with respect, and always according to the laws set forth by the State of California.
My door is always open and I invite those with questions to come on by the office.
