High Quality Prostate Cancer Treatment and Health Care Services to Low-Income Californians with a Confirmed Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer

The American Cancer Society and others recommend an annual rectal exam and blood test for the Prostate Specific Antigen after age 50. Some high-risk groups (genetic history of prostate cancer or African-Americans males) are recommended for an earlier screening at 45 years. Patients are encouraged to ask their physicians when testing is appropriate.

The IMPACT (Improving Access, Counseling and Treatment for Californians with Prostate Cancer) Program provides high quality prostate cancer treatment and health care services to low-income Californians who have a confirmed diagnosis of prostate cancer.

This program provides FREE prostate cancer treatment for men who:
  • Are 18 years or older
  • Live in California
  • Have little to no health insurance or any other way to pay for treatment
  • Have incomes at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Level
  • Are Medi-Cal Pending
  • Are NOT eligible for MediCare
IMPACT will provide FREE prostate cancer treatment for an initial 12 months.
Treatments provided include:
  • Radical Prostatectomy
  • Brachytherapy
  • External Beam Radiation Therapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Hormone Therapy
  • Medications
  • Watchful Waiting
  • Counseling
IMPACT will also:
  • Provide FREE nurse case manager services
  • Help identify a doctor or hospital close to the patient where they can receive treatment
IMPACT provides treatment at several places in California. IMPACT participants receive care from doctors or hospitals that work with the program.
