Order a Birth or Death Certificate

Nevada County Recorder maintains the Birth and Death records for those births and deaths that occurred in this county and the Marriage records for licenses issued in the county.
California Health & Safety Code Section 103526, permits only authorized persons as defined on the Online Form to receive certified copies for Identification purposes of birth and/or death records. Senate Bill 1614, Chapter 712 passed, which prohibits the display of vital records indexes on the internet.
Those who are not authorized by law may receive a certified copy with the words "INFORMATIONAL, NOT A VALID DOCUMENT TO ESTABLISH IDENTITY’.
Birth Certificates - Online Form can be obtained if the birth occurred in Nevada County, California and the child has not been adopted nor had a legal name change. Birth Records for adopted children or for those with a legal name change may only be available from the State Vital Records Office.
Death Certificates - If the death occurred in Nevada County, California. Online form.
Marriage Certificates - Can be obtained if the marriage license was issued in Nevada County, California regardless of where the ceremony took place. Online Form.

How Do I Order a Certified Copy of a Vital Record?
There are four methods to order a copy of a vital record filed in Nevada County, California.
1. Requests made in person at Nevada County Recorder
Office are completed while you wait.
2. Send the completed form (forms) along with a check or
money order, made payable to Nevada County Recorder,
in the required amount to:
