The Truckee Station responds to approximately 300 plus square miles of Nevada County. The area encompasses the Township of Truckee, which is the most heavily populated, and is 34 square miles. The unincorporated areas of this portion of the county consist of snow-covered peaks up to 8,000 feet, numerous recreational lakes, streams, and rivers.
The
Town of Truckee, consisting of approximately 15,000 residents, is predominately a resort-oriented area with many ski resorts. Lake Tahoe and the city of Reno are within easy driving distance of Truckee. The Station is approximately 54 miles from its headquarters and separated geographically by the Donner Summit, Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.
Truckee JailLong-term detainees are transported to the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City.
All of the correctional officers assigned to the jail have varied duties, including occasionally being a transport officer and a bailiff. The correctional officers may also take counter reports and assist the Dispatch Center in answering telephones.
Truckee Emergency CommunicationsThe Truckee Station employs its own centrally located 9-1-1 Dispatch Center. The 9-1-1 Dispatch Center handles a variety of emergency calls, including 9-1-1 dispatching of fire and ambulance for Truckee Fire Department. Dispatchers are also responsible for being the controllers for the jail, building monitors, processing crime reports as to data entry, as well as other assigned duties.
The Center also dispatches for the
Truckee Police Department, local Truckee C.H.P., U.S. Forest Service, the Town of Truckee and Sheriff’s headquarters in Nevada City.
