7-HILLS TOBACCO YOUTH PARTNERSHIP
RED RIBBON WEEK

Peer leaders at Seven Hills created their own celebrations for Red Ribbon Week this year.  Every day had its own theme that students dressed up to follow and a lunch time activity to educate and involve the entire student body.

On Monday the theme was "Wrap presents, not cigarettes".  Students dressed up with any type of bow or ribbon, mostly red.  For the lunch time activity, students had to find or name ingredients in the average cigarette that were hidden around campus.

On Tuesday, students dressed up in slippers to the theme "give drugs the slip".  During lunch they could participate in the activity "Chew watermelon, not tobacco" and try to eat watermelon the fastest.

Wednesday had students wearing their clothes backwards with the theme "Turn Your Back on Drugs".  To go with the theme, peer leaders traced their peer's shadows walking away from drugs at lunch.

Thursday's theme was "Don't Chew, Dress in Twos".  Students dressed as twins with a friend and for lunch time they played with giant bubble wands and spread the word "Blow Bubbles, not Smoke".

On Friday, students dressed in sweats with the theme "Living Drug Free is no Sweat".  For the lunch time activity, they played Simon Says Don't Smoke (if they got out, they had to answer a tobacco fact question to get back in).

In addition, the peer leaders created informative presentations about the negative effects of tobacco and ways to say no to peer pressure to share with fourth grade students at Deer Creek on Friday.  The students at Seven Hills took the initiative and made Red Ribbon Week, 2009 a success!
