The immigration consequences of a criminal conviction can have devastating consequences to an individual. In Kentucky v. Padilla, 559 U.S. 356 (2010), the United States Supreme Court mandated that criminal defense attorneys must advise non-citizen clients about the deportation risks of a guilty plea.
