Nevada County Public Health values the health and wellness of all people in our community, regardless of their gender, gender identity or sexual orientation. Members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer / Questioning (LGBTQ) communities, similar to other communities, experience some distinct concerns related to their health and wellness. Here at Public Health, we work to provide services that are respectful and inclusive for all members of our community. In addition, below is a list of resources in Nevada County that focus on services and resources for LGBTQ+ people.

Local Resources

School-based Resources

Many of our local schools, including middle schools and high schools, have resources and groups on campus to support and celebrate LGBTQ+ students.

In Western Nevada County, these chapters are facilitated by a school counselor or by volunteers from PFLAG of Nevada County. Ask your school counselor about how to get involved with the group in your school or contact PFLAG to learn more about joining or starting a chapter at your school.

In Truckee, Truckee High School has a Pride Club via their Wellness Center. The Pride Club supports MOGII (Marginalized Orientations, Gender Identities and Intersex) youth and educates the school and the broader community about the broad spectrum of sexual orientations and gender identities.

Connect with the Sierra College Rainbow Alliance for activities and support.

Social Supports

PFLAG offers a monthly support group the 4th Tuesday of each month from 6-8pm in Grass Valley, as well as many other events. PFLAG's calendar lists details and descriptions of their groups and events.

NEO Rainbow Social is a monthly gathering in Grass Valley for friendship and support for LGBTQIA+ youth ages 11-25. Check NEO's events page for the next date.

Nevada County Pride offers a social network, potlucks, networking and an events listing.
