Background
Housing First
On the federal and state level, funding sources are requiring providers to utilize the Housing First approach to house homeless individuals and families. HomeBase will provide a detailed overview of the core components of the Housing First approach, both as a best practice and as a requirement under California law for state-funded programs. Attendees will participate in a facilitated, interactive discussion on community challenges to implementing Housing First, to strategize solutions for bringing both individual programs and the system of care into greater alignment with the Housing First approach
Landlord Engagement
To unlock housing resources for vulnerable clients, the continuum of housing providers has to do better at building relationships with landlords and property managers. Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) has been working to collect local input and has years of experience advising and promoting supportive housing. CSH will introduce the major themes and outcomes of months of collecting information from local providers and landlords and will introduces a "toolkit" for engaging and retaining local landlords. Once reviewed, attendees will participate in a facilitated community discussion of the major themes and determine the best approach to implement promising practices. CSH will also encourage leaders of the community to champion important components of the landlord engagement proposals to support accountability and recruitment efforts.
