[ARCHIVED] Nevada County Community Library Options for Continuing to Learn

With many members of the Nevada County community sheltering at home and looking to occupy their time, the Nevada County Community Library has lots of options for continuing to learn and work towards new goals. Have you ever wanted to learn a new language? Find out more about local history? Earn a high school diploma? Or do you just have a burning question that only a librarian can answer?

Librarians from the Nevada County Community Library are available to help you with research questions during the COVID-19 health closure. You can submit a request through the “Contact a Librarian” link under the “How Do I?” menu on the Library’s website (, or simply email your question to Librarians respond to inquiries Monday through Friday and can help you with electronic resources, library account issues, or research questions.

Looking for something new to learn to help you pass the time? Pronunciator is an online language-learning database, available for free with your Nevada County Library card. It offers the opportunity to learn more than eighty languages through multimedia interactive lessons. Lessons can be tailored to your learning style, whether you learn best by listening, reading, focusing on grammar, or memorizing phrases and vocabulary. Pronunciator even has lessons designed for children of different age ranges. Visit Pronunciator here.

You can also use this time to obtain your high school diploma through the Library from the comfort of your own home. The Library has seven scholarships available for Career Online High School (COHS). Each scholarship enables a Nevada County resident over the age of 19 to earn an accredited high school diploma for free through a self-paced online program. For information and to qualify for a scholarship, visit the Library’s COHS page here.

Some other options for learning something new and keeping your mind sharp can be found in the Library’s Hobbies & Crafts and Home Improvement Reference Center databases, as well as the hundreds of Great Courses entries in Kanopy and Hoopla. All of the Library’s digital resources are available here.
