[ARCHIVED] Great Plates Emergency Food Program for At-Risk Seniors in Nevada County

Last Week, Governor Newson directed the California Office of Emergency Services to release information and guidance for the Great Plates Program, a program designed to provide seniors with hot meals delivered to their home from local restaurants. The program aims to stimulate the local economy by supporting local food vendors, while also providing a food service to seniors in need who do not qualify for any other supplemental nutrition programs.

Qualifying Nevada County participants must meet the following criteria:

  • 65 or older, or 60-64 year of age and high-risk (Individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 or been exposed to COVID-19 or individuals with certain underlying health conditions that place them at high-risk should they contract the virus)
  • Live alone or with one other Great Plates Program eligible adult
  • Not be currently receiving assistance from any other state or federal nutrition assistance programs (Meals on Wheels, CalFresh)
  • Earn no more that 600% of the federal poverty limit ($74,940 (single) or $101,460 (2-person)) annually.
  • Affirm an inability to prepare or obtain meals for themselves

Individual Participant FAQ

  • Will I be charged for meals delivered? No, meals are delivered free of charge through this program.
  • How many meals may be delivered per day? Each individual is allowed a maximum of three (3) nutritious meals per day at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • How are meals selected and delivered? Each local administrator determines how meals are selected and delivered. Meals meet specific nutritional requirements and are prepared locally. Individuals delivering meals are subject to background checks.
