Army Community Board and Media Event

Human Resources Director Steve Rose attended both a Media Roundtable event and a Community Relations Board with the Northern California Army recruiting Battalion on June 26th.   Nevada County is the Battalion’s newest PaYS partner, the Army PaYS program is a partnership between the Army and American corporations and public sector agencies. As one of the Army career programs, PaYS allows you to serve while also preparing for jobs after the military.

The media round table event had a diverse panel line up with members from State Dept. of Ed. Representation, Nevada County as a PaYS partner, Army Medical Recruiting Command, the Honorable Lance Izumi, Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army and a Future Soldier, a recent High School graduate.  Brendan Davis the Battalions Chief of Public Affairs was the moderator. iHeart Media was the main news outlet and did a great job in engaging the panel.  LTC Clay, the incoming Battalion’s Commander had a follow-up interview with local radio host Kitty O’Neal.  The event forged the partnership with the Army and the County’s support of hiring veterans and the diversity they bring to the County.

Steve is a standing member of the Community Relations Board and attends meetings quarterly.   In addition to being a Army PaYS partner Nevada County has partnered with our Veteran’s community to assist in the development and training of Veteran’s by recruiting and hiring seven veteran interns working over 2,916 hours contributing over $89,993.00 to the veterans and saving salaries paid by the County Since May 2019.

Nevada County has five veterans in the talent pipeline partnering with DoD Skillbridge and VA Work-study.  SkillBridge is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of military service prior to separation. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners and real-world job experiences that are designed to facilitate Service members’ transition to civilian careers upon separation from their military service.  VA Work-study is provides part-time employment to students receiving VA education benefits who attend school three-quarter time or more.
