The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Sacramento Section is pleased to announce that the Purdon Road over Shady Creek Bridge Replacement Project has been selected as the 2019 ASCE Sacramento Section Bridge Project of the Year. The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Sacramento Section is also pleased to announce that the Combie Road Corridor Improvements Project has been selected as the 2019 ASCE Sacramento Section Transportation Project of the Year.
On Combie the DPW team built this $5,000,000 project in multiple phases over several years. The project included undergrounding of utilities from Highway 49 past Higgins Drive. Combie road was widened out to allow better access onto Highway 49, a new sewer line was placed to accommodate growth in this area, and a new signal was placed at the intersection of Higgins and Combie to allow safer access into the new Higgins development, and safer access for the fire department.
For the Purdon Bridge Project DPW replaced an old structurally deficient, single lane, wooden rail car bridge on Purdon Road over shady creek. DPW got a grant for over $2,000,000 to complete the design and construction of a new two lane concrete bridge. The construction team built a temporary bridge during construction to allow traffic back and forth across the creek to minimize detours.
These are tremendous accomplishments for the project teams, organizations, and all project proponents.
