Jones Fire at 705 acres and 15% containment Thursday evening

Jones Fire - NewsFlash (3)

CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit is reporting 705 acres and 15% containment Thursday evening. There are currently 175 parcels under a mandatory Evacuation Order due to the Jones Fire. Several residential areas outside of the fire perimeter have been reopened. If your address is still under a mandatory evacuation order, please respect the order and road closures.  This is for your continued safety.

“Fire activity moderated today due to stabilizing weather and aggressive direct fire attack by crews, engines, dozers and air support,” said CAL FIRE NEU Unit Chief Brian Estes. “This has allowed us to improve containment and getting residents back into their homes.”

There is one Temporary Evacuation Point available in Penn Valley.

Temporary Evacuation Points:

  • Ready Springs School: 10862 Spenceville Rd, Penn Valley, CA 95946

The Temporary Evacuation Point at Magnolia Intermediate School closed at 6:00 p.m. due to low usage and decreased need as additional evacuations are lifted

Smoke Impacts to Air Quality:

Smoke from several wildfires burning in Northern California is impacting the Sacramento region, enhancing ozone formation and increasing particle concentrations. Exposure to elevated PM2.5 (fine particulate matter in smoke) concentrations can result in eye and throat irritation, headaches, nausea, shortness of breath, congestion, coughing, impaired lung function and chest pain, especially among sensitive individuals such as the elderly, children, people with asthma, people with heart or lung conditions, pregnant women and anyone who is exercising or working hard outdoors. People who are affected by, or susceptible to, COVID-19 may be at increased risk from wildfire smoke due to cardiovascular symptoms or a compromised or suppressed immune system.
